NINDS is part of the
National Institutes of
Health
The NINDS envisions that the clinical development of a new treatment will occur in three stages, each supported by a different funding mechanism: One or more pilot studies, followed by a period of planning for a definitive clinical trial and developing the study manual of operations and data collection forms, and then the definitive clinical trial. The program announcements for pilot clinical studies and for clinical trial planning grants are available through the links (below). Investigators interested in submitting a grant application for a definitive (i.e., Phase III) clinical trial may submit the application through the usual R01 mechanism or as a cooperative agreement (U01). Consult with the Clinical Research Liaison for more information.
